Two Firsts

This was my first time installing a covered/hidden zipper, not to be confused w/invisible zipper. But I had the perfect zipper for this pillow cover and I was determined to use it.

I looked at a handful of YouTube vids before coming across this one by Bungalow Quilting that was simple enough for me to follow, although she refers to it as a “zipper flap”. The only modification I made was cutting my flap 3.5” instead of 5”.

It turned out much better than I thought it was going to.

I’m extremely pleased w/my pillow cover!

And my second “first” is facing a quilt. Facing is a finishing technique that is not binding. When I went to the International Quilt Festival in Houston last year I saw a lot of quilts finished this way. I couldn’t even wrap my head around the process but after seeing one of Wendy’s posts, I asked her about it and she sent me this easy peasy tutorial and I did it! Thanks Wendy and Victoria!

Victoria says she thinks faced quilts “hang better and flatter”. Since I really like how my patriotic star quilt hangs, I’m considering removing the binding from another of my wall hangings that I’d like to see “hang better and flatter” and face it instead. Is this crazy or what?! Maybe someday I’ll even try facing w/mitered corners.

How about you? Have you ever faced a quilt? If so, do you prefer it to the traditional binding?

A Thread for Life

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

A Post of Finishes and Few Words

I’m in some kind of funk lately and I don’t have much to say today, but I wanted to share my progress.
Diamonds and Purples is finished 68″ x 80″.

Spinning Stars is also finished 43″ x 62″.

I made a coordinating pillowcase

To reward myself for these two finishes, I sewed all my 1″ strings together in jellyroll race fashion to make this panel. The panel is still just a flimsy but I plan on quilting it and making it a wall hanging. I also made a rag bag tote.

If you pray, pray me out of this funk please. Thank you and God bless.

Steady Progress Continues

Steady progress is being made on my  Christmas Countdown.

Spinning Stars is basted and awaiting quilting.

The backing is red w/white polka dots.

Diamonds and Purples has been flipped, turned or birthed, however you want to refer to a quilt w/o binding, and is awaiting top-stitching around perimeter and quilting.

The backing is pieced w/assorted purples.

I’ve also got several of the small quilted gifts for friends and family finished. I will post pics of these after Christmas,

I hope you are making progress on your projects too.
Until next time, happy quilting.
Thanks for stopping by!
