WHOOMP There IT Is! #32 – I’m Going to Quiltcon!

First things first…I’m going to Quiltcon east! YAY!

I’m super excited! Please let me know if you are going too.  I’m so looking forward to meeting those of you who are!

Next thing next…

I’ve an eclectic taste.  When it comes to quilting,  ALL pattern varieties excite me and I like traditional as much as I like modern.  However, my first original pattern falls into the modern category.

This is the 1st draft of my pattern, Back and Forth.

I drew it up on graph paper several months ago. A couple of weeks ago I not so quickly figured the math (I don’t like quilty math!) to make a baby quilt to present at my niece’s baby shower.  It’s not an official pattern yet, but when it is, it will be available for purchase and include instruction for at least 2 sizes.

Now it’s your turn to share. What have you been stitchin’?

Instructions: Select all code above, copy it and paste it inside your blog post as HTML

WHOOMP There IT Is! #25 – Quilt Show Faves, This Hair! and So Long My Friend

Thanks for stopping by. I so appreciate all of you and your wonderful comments. Thank you!

The Arizona’s Quilters Guild 2016 Quilt Show was fantastic!  After my volunteer shift on Saturday I walked the entire show…for the 2nd time. The 1st time was on Thursday after the awards ceremony.  There were 300+ quilts and a ton of vendors. It was a day spent in quilty splendor and I left the show filled w/so much inspiration!

I entered Gossamer in the Pictorial category.  Here are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in the category.   Can you say AMAZING?!

I love scrappy quilts so it’s no surprise that most of my faves were scrappy delights!

Here are some of my other favorites! Forgive the bad lighting/photography on some of these pics.

Now about my hair….

I’ve worn it short most of my life but I’ve been growing it out for about 1.5yrs.  Here’s a pic I took a few days after my last hair cut in October of 2014.  I went to visit Greta of Material Datchment and we went the the AQS Quilt Show in Des Moines.

I’ve been wearing hair extensions (braids) for the past year, but recently decided to give my neck a break for a while (any braid style tends to be heavy when you have as much hair as I do). I took the braids out and treated myself to a silk press.  It took my stylist, Maranda, less than 1 hr to transform my mass of hair into silky bliss. Thanks again Maranda! It won’t stay like this forever.  As soon as I warsh it, it’s back to my worlds of curls but I’ll ride this silky wave as long as I can.

l to r: warshed, blown-out, silk-pressed

And one last thing before the linky. Yesterday a very dear friend went home to heaven. She was the best Scrabble player ever…even at 91yrs old!

Elinor is on the right

Elinor, you are already missed! Until we meet again, rest in peace.

Now it’s time for sew and share.

WHOOMP There IT Is! #24 – Award Winner

WHOOMP There IT Is!  Gossamer got Honorable Mention in the pictorial category at the Arizona Quilters Guild Quilt Show 2016!

Not too bad for my first ever show entry! Thank you Janeen for the wonderful pattern! AND thank you Sue for your thorough and patient instruction!  You can read about the making of Gossamer here.  Needless to say, I’m ecstatic!

Ugh! I could not get this centered!

And in other news…

Last week’s craft sale was pretty much a bust. There wasn’t much traffic at all.  I sold 3 bibs all day. We were out there from 8a – 1p.  I came home and listed everything in My Etsy Shop.

Besides the bibs, I’d made several belly bands for small dogs. I decided to give my bands a name; Mr. PeePotty.  I’ve always heard that baby and dog items sell the best. I sure hope it’s true!

I did manage to get another spiderweb block finished. I’m starting to see webs form!

I had a minor mishap though. On one section I cut off the web strings instead of my guide.  It was an easy fix, but I did want to cry when it happened.

There are several patterns/tutorials for the spiderweb quilt.   I chose to go w/ this tutorial because I found it the simplest.  The blocks measure 11.5″, so I figure to have a decent size lap quilt I need 42 blocks (6 across, 7 down), which means my 1st block will definitely be in this quilt!

This scrappy Jelly Roll Race quilt is basted and I’m hoping to finish it this weekend to get it sent off on Monday. Then I’ll get started on my next commission for 2 baby quilts w/custom labels.

And lastly, for the past few years I’ve volunteered at the AQG Quilt Show. If I’ve had a name tag, it’s been a sticker but this year I have a real badge! Thanks Sue!

If you are local or just visiting this weekend, come see the 300+ quilts made by amazing Arizona quilters!  I hope I see you there!

And one more pic of  me & Gossamer for good measure. =)

Now it’s your turn to show us what you’ve been up to.
