WHOOMP There IT Is! #30 – It’s Been A While

Long time, no see. I’ve missed you. I honestly can’t believe it’s been almost a month. When I decided to start doing my WHOOMP There IT Is! linky party 1x/mo (first Fridays), I didn’t intend to only blog 1x/mo!  But that’s about where I am. I do plan to blog at least twice a month though.

The month flew by and even though I had a few finishes, I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished much. Maybe because the last couple of quilts were very simple patterns? Who knows. Truth be told, I’ve been in some kind of mood lately and I really hope it passes soon because I don’t like feeling this way.

I finished the commission for 2 baby quilts. A friend/coworker ordered a quilt for each of her grandsons who will both be turning a year old in August. She got the quilts on Tuesday and is very pleased and excited to present them in August.

And here’s my other finish.

When I get to the end of a piece of fabric, 7″ or less, I usually strip it down into strings ranging from 2.5″ – 1″.  Well one day, a long, long time ago, I got a wild hair and decided to sew all my 1″ strings together (in jellyroll race fashion) and this is what it yielded. Too thin to be a lap quilt, and too wide to be a table runner, I’m calling it a bed runner. It sat as a flimsy until last month when #4 was chosen in our UFO Challenge 2016, and now it’s finished!

One last thing I want to share before the party is a pattern test I’m working on. It’s a pattern called Scrappy Litter Blox by Lillyella. The pattern will be included in the June Stash Builder Box.  I usually like to get all the cutting out of the way first, but not this time. I had to put at least one block together to show you.

I’ve quite a bit more cutting to do but the block goes together rather quickly.  I’ll finish cutting tonight and hopefully get most of the quilt together this weekend. And speaking of this weekend, it’s supposed to get upwards of 117° here in Phoenix! So yeah, I’ll be indoors ALL weekend stitchin’!

Eeek! It’s going to be a long summer. =( Maybe I can come visit one of you this summer. Anywhere is cooler than here!

So what have you been stitchin’ on?  I’d love to see it!

Goal Reached and Other Things

I pray everyone had a Merry Christmas. Mine was good. My family came to my  house where we ate, drank and were merry. Afterward we went to Glendale Glitters. It was a really good day.

I actually finished sewing my quilted gifts on Christmas Eve. I wanted to give something quilted AND useful. I settled on these microwave cozies.

Leaning Tower of Cozies

I made…and gave 37 of them. They were well received. I got the idea from this post and Jenn graciously sent me this tutorial.  Thanks ladies!

I’ve got my new grandson’s quilt top together. It measures 39.75″ x 47.5″.   I basted it last night and will be quilting it this week. I remember Greta saying, as she was cutting out the triangles w/her Go! Baby Accuquilt Fabric Cutter, how the colors and fabrics reminded her of a “gourmet” Iowa spring day.  So I’m calling this quilt; Iowa Spring Day. Thanks Greta!

At first I was overwhelmed, not sure how to layout all these colors and fabrics. I finally decided to just alternate dark and light triangles in each row. Eventually I started to run out of lighter colored fabrics but then I remembered a trick I saw somewhere…I think it was Instagram.  By turning a fabric over, to wrong side out, it basically looks like a lighter/muted shade of the same fabric. I did this several times through out the baby quilt.  Thank you whoever thought of this wonderful technique!

Middle fabric used as a dark

Middle fabric turned wrong side out and used as a light

This was my first time sewing triangles together. I found/used this tutorial. Thanks Lorna!  Instead of pressing the seams open, I opted to press to one side or the other, alternating rows.

I’ve also been working on the pattern test I mentioned in my last post. I’ve got it basted and ditched. I’m calling it Walk Like An Egyptian. I love how it’s turning out. I can’t wait for everyone to see it! It’s going to be a wall hanging above my bed. I’m not sure how I’m going to hang it as I’ve never hung a quilt before, so if anyone can point me in the direction of a good How to Hang Quilts tutorial, please point away.

I bought myself a walking foot. One came w/my machine when I bought it a couple of years ago, but every time I used it, it bunched up my fabric and put a black line on it.

Anyway, I used my new one for ditching Walk Like An Egyptian and it worked beautifully. I am going to use it to quilt both of these quilt and I’m sure many others to come.

I haven’t shared pics of Ivy in a while. She is now 6 1/2 mos.  Look how big and beautiful she’s gotten.

I pray this coming year is a blessed and peaceful one for you all.

Until next time, Happy Quilting and God Bless!

My First Pattern Test!

One of my favorite things to do online is to check out other quilting blogs. I was reading a blog back in November where a girl was talking about being a pattern tester. What is a pattern tester?A pattern tester is a  person who test patterns!  Well I wanted to be one so I started looking online for peeps who needed one.  There were several options to choose from but I decided to go w/The Quilt Pattern Magazine and signed up to test the Sashing Surprise pattern. I had this cute big print fabric I got at Goodwill that was just sitting there looking cute…and now it had a purpose.

I call this quilt Full Steam Ahoy.  It is pictured in this months issue of The Quilt Pattern Magazine.

This one is for sale in My Etsy Shop!
