WHOOMP There IT Is! #31 – It Just Keeps Flying

I’m truly baffled by how quickly time just flies on by. Half of 2016 is already gone!  I’d heard that once you turn 21 the years seem to pass 2 at a time. It’s absolutely true!  Seems like it was just yesterday I turned 21. And it’s so funny how now that I’m in my 40s, I finally feel like an adult even though I thought I was grown at 21!  With this being said, I like being in my 40s. And I consider myself to be growing better instead of  older.

I don’t know where all that came from. You’d think I just celebrated a birthday, but I didn’t. Not again until December, but thanks for humoring me.

Now on to quilty things!

I finished the Scrappy Litter Blox pattern I was testing. The pattern was featured in the June’s Stash Builder Box and will be available soon at Lillyella. I like how it came out and I’m thinking about putting the optional border on it. What do you think?

I made these cute bandanna bibs for a birthday girl who just turned 1yr. I cannot wait to see one on her. The first set I made included a piece of flannel between the 2 layers of cotton. They were super soft but I was afraid they’d be too hot for here in AZ?  I ended up making a 2nd set w/3 layers of cotton and those are the ones I gave. The others will soon be listed in my Etsy shop.

My sis has been practicing her guitar daily and she’s getting really good. Hearing her progress makes me want to play too. So the other night I pulled Ruby (my bass) out of the corner AND out of the bag! I even popped the “Getting Started” DVD into the computer and attempted to tune her. I got as far as tuning 2 strings. I’m planning to make time to practice and/or take a couple of my buddies up on their offer to teach me. I’m one step closer to being a rock star in the worship band!

I have an addition to my family.  A little fox face Pomeranian named Maurice. We call him Moe. =)

WHOOMP There IT Is! #21 – And the Winner Is…

Next order of business is about the 2016 UFO Challenge I’m participating in.   March’s number is 6.  My #6 project is a Spiderweb quilt. I was inspired to make one after seeing Julie’s gorgeous creation pictured below.  Something tells me that I’m going to end up w/more UFOs than I started with!

I’ve got a good list of  things to do this month.  Besides work on the Spiderweb quilt, I’ve got to make a gift quilt, several small items for a craft sale taking place in 2 weeks, sew a sleeve and label on Gossamer for the Arizona Quilters Guild Quilt Show, finish 2 test projects for Kids Camp, AND start a commission for 2 baby quilts! Pray for me y’all!

So I Made A Purse…

I was admiring a fellow quilter’s purse at Kids Camp a few weeks ago.  Of course she’d made it herself. (Am I the only quilter who doesn’t carry a self-made purse?) Anyway, I became obsessed…like I often do, and kept touching it and saying how awesome it was…even after she’d offered to send me the pattern! I’m a bit much some times.  
Anyway, this is her awesome purse! It’s a pattern she or a friend had previously purchased which she made modifications to.
I decided the first one I made would be for my sis. I went to my stash and chose this gorgeous Australian print and coordinating color for the lining. 
And this is what happened!

I used an ultra firm fusible stabilizer on the purse body and décor-bond (firm) on the lining.  I didn’t much like my experience w/the ultra firm stabilizer though…but I got ‘er done!

There’s a deep pocket on one side and a more shallow one on the other.  These,  like the inside pockets can be customized to your needs (the possibilities are endless) but I’m quite fond of them just the way they are.

And then, there’s the inside!  This purse doesn’t look all that big from the outside…so I was pleasantly surprised w/how roomy it really is inside! I threw a few of my things inside for the pic, but could’ve added a lot more!

The strap is what pulls the wooden handles together to close the purse. It can be doubled to wear as a shoulder purse or used as a long single strap and worn cross body (if made long enough). I made this one 56″ long so it definitely can be worn cross body.  Therefore, I’m calling it the 2-Way Purse!

And then…I made another one! This one is mine!  I love wood and liked the idea of seeing more of the wooden handles, so I changed the loops that holds them. I’m calling this one a 3-Way purse because it can also be used as a large clutch!  I didn’t want to fuss w/the ultra firm stabilizer so I used décor-bond (firm) for both lining and purse body.  I also used the same fabric for the lining but did something different on the pockets. And speaking of pockets, I inadvertently lined both the pocket fronts and backings w/décor-bond. but didn’t realize it until it was too late…so my pockets are a little stiff. =)
