The Midwest Abode

Hi Y’all! Long time, no post. It has been 16 weeks since my last post. Unbelievable! Needless, to say I’ve been working a lot. It’s what I came here for. But work is not ALL I do. I make it to the gym a few times a week, take my dog for a walk at least once a week, go to church and bible study, shop, go out to eat. I do the latter less often than I used to (for a few different reasons) but I do love me some KC barbecue! And who knew I’d have such an affinity for Indian Cuisine?! It’s my most favorite comfort food ever!

A friend came to visit in February.

She’s a quilter who had never been to Missouri, so naturally I took her to Missouri Star Quilt Co in Hamilton, where she shopped ’til she almost dropped! We also visited Angela Walter’s shop here in Liberty, Quilting is My Therapy .

My friend actually worked for Hallmark for many years in AZ so I took her to the Hallmark Visitors Center AND we toured the Arabia Steamboat Museum. We had a grand time.

On the day she left, I got another visitor. A semi-permanent one. My youngest son Joshua.

He’s been with me ever since. He’s working (more in the last 3 mos than he has in the last 3 years! Praise God!) and is enjoying living in the Midwest.

And speaking of living in the Midwest, I bought a house! The one I fell in love with at first sight back in August.

Here are a few more pics of the unique beauty that is now our home.

And look at the new sewing space in the basement! There’s even an electric fireplace! I had to decorate my design wall with some orphan blocks to liven it up until I can get going on a project which hopefully will be soon!

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed the tour.

And Thank You Lord for allowing me to be the steward of such a lovely abode.

A Thread for Life

let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:22-23 HCSB

  1. Congratulations on your new home, it’s beautiful! Enjoy that sewing space! Fun to see that grin on your son’s face; I’m sure it’s great having him home. Your shopping outing with your friend looks like it was grand fun!

  2. OMG!!! It is a lovely home and I envy that sewing space. And your son is adorable, I am sure you love having him with you. What a great visit your friend had, 2 icon businesses in the quilting world!

  3. Welcome back! I’ve missed your posts. The house is great and I love that you have quilts all around. Enjoy your new life!

  4. Congratulations on getting the house you wanted. It is beautiful! And how wonderful you get to spend time with your son in it.

  5. Welcome to Missouri!! I can’t believe we haven’t gotten together for a quilting day/outing! Since returning to the classroom in August, I have done very little creating in my studio. For one, we moved into a small, 2-bedroom apartment in September. And secondly, I’m so stinking consumed with work there’s no time, or rather, energy left for much else.

I am so excited for you having bought the house you wanted! It looks like you’ve painted the exterior? Am I wrong? Your quilt art is a beautiful addition to the rustic aesthetic of the interior spaces. Glad you’ve entertained guests already. Nothing feels more like being home than when family and friends can share it with you. Missouri Star and Quilting Is My Therapy are two of Missouri’s best quilting treasures! Great things to share with your friends.

School is out this week for me! So I’m hoping we can finally meet and/or get together to work on a quilt project. Message me when you’re ready! Enjoyed your post!

  6. This is awesome, Zenia! With a capital A !! The house looks amazing! May God continue to bless you all. And your blog is dope

  7. Congrats on the new house! Blogging can wait — you’ve been busy with life. It sounds like you’re settling in well and creating a new routine.
